The 2017 Convention is over and it was wonderful. The 2018 Convention will be August 3-4 at Bethel Lutheran in Winchester.
2017 Convention Re-cap
We were 79 women strong at Convention this year where we learned, laughed, shared and worshiped as one Body of Christ. Voting members elected Jody Smiley President and re-elected Edith Blake Treasurer. Michelle Poore, Linda Lowry, Ellen Green and Sylvia Ely were elected to two-year terms and Bonnie Mantta was elected to the one-year term left due to Brenda Conway's resignation. We renewed our spirits with workshops on Meditation and Care of self. We gained a greater understanding of the aftermath of trauma through Jody Smiley's workshop on the 10th anniversary of the VA Tech tragedy and about each other at Pastor Kelly's workshop. We also learned about the VA Synod's Health Congregations program from Mindy Reynolds and welcomed Bishop Mauney as our keynote speaker for his last public address. What an honor! Our offerings were generous and the response to the service projects were overwhelming. Thanks to all who participated and to the amazing Genie Brown and her ladies from St Philip for all their work as ambassadors of welcome and fellowship. See you next year in Winchester!
2018 Service Project
As announced at the 2017 VSWO Annual Convention, the service project for 2018 will be walker caddys for our aging senior population. We encourage each unit or conference to adopt a local assisted living facility/rehab center/retirement community in their area to which these useful items can be gifted. Keep a count and bring that along with pictures and a few samples of your handiwork to the 2018 convention in Winchester. Caddys brought to convention will be distributed to Lutheran Homes retirement centers in Virginia. For the non-sewers, non-slip socks can easily be made to include with the caddys. This is as simple as taking new socks and adding designs with puffy paint on the soles.
