Mission: Justice
To enable women to articulate and act upon their faith as disciples of
Jesus Christ in all areas of life.
Jesus Christ in all areas of life.
This includes:
- Educating our members about issues such as racial justice advocacy, domestic violence, human trafficking, etc.
- Promoting and Participating in service projects for Lutheran World Relief and Lutheran Family Services such as Quilts, Layettes, School Kits, and Prayer Shawls
- Organizing retreats and maintaining a list of speakers on a variety of topics who are available for conference gatherings and unit meetings.
At the 30th Annual VSWO Convention, the following resolution entitled "Ending Racial Injustice" submitted by the Germanna conference was adopted:
"Whereas our state and country are experiencing racial discord;
Whereas the events of Charlottesville of August 2017 have re-opened wounds that we thought had begun to heal;
Whereas we as Christian women should be leaders in advocating the end of all racial discrimination;
Therefore, be it resolved that the Virginia Synod Women of the ELCA show their commitment to ending racial injustice by directing every unit to have at least one activity utilizing the Women of the ELCA resource, “How to have helpful conversations about race in the church.”
We encourage each unit to explore this important topic and share with the Board what you discovered and ways you were motivated to act.
